I’m joining in the Teddy Bear FUN to help Stollery kids from my backyard!

I'm participating in Teddy Bear Fun Fest on May 11, 2024 at Rundle Park. The Stollery is a cause that's near and dear to my heart. Before our son was born, before we even knew if he was a girl or boy, we knew that he was special. We knew that he had just half a heart. The doctors do not know why, but our baby was sick. I went into labor on December 18th and an excruciating 20 hours later Chase was born. He was born with one of the worst and rarest congenital heart defects. Specifically it is called hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Essentially he was born with just half a heart.


When Chase was just 10 days old he had his first of three open-heart surgeries. It was a very long 5 hours. After his surgery was done the doctors said he did great. He was taken to the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) at the Stollery. He spent 4 days there before he was transferred to the Cardiac Unit. In total we spent the first month of his life in the hospital. I spent every waking moment I could with Chase holding him, and kissing him, and changing him, and feeding him. Everything I would do at home, just in the hospital.

We spend the next few months at home together going to many, many doctors appointments. We landed in the hospital once because Chase caught a cold right before his second surgery. Chase spent three weeks before surgery in isolation so he wouldn't get sicker.

At 5 1/2 months old Chase had his second operation and at 3 1/2 years old he had his third and final operation.   

We have been blessed to have such great cardiac care in Edmonton. Chase needed it as a baby, needs it as a child and will continue to need the best care as an adult.  

With your support, we'll help kids from backyards across central and northern Alberta access some of the best physical and mental health care anywhere in the world – and have a ton of fun while we're doing it!
